Composite Fillings in Springfield, MO

Dental fillings are the treatment of choice for tooth decay, fractures, and cracks. Although there are several dental filling materials, amalgam and composite are the most preferred fillings.

Composite resin is a filling material used in small to mid-sized restorations in the front and back teeth. It offers excellent durability and resistance to fracture. A mix of acrylic reinforced with powdered glass filler is used in dental fillings, inlays, veneers, and crowns. We perform composite restorations for the natural look of teeth.

What Are Composite Fillings?

Composite fillings are tooth-colored fillings that can be matched to the shade of your teeth. So, even if you have a cavity in your front teeth, we can fill it with composite resin to restore their natural appearance, and no one would ever know.

Composite Fillings Procedure

Shade Selection

We select the shade of composite that exactly matches the color of your teeth. For this, we use a shade guide and hold it close to your tooth to find out the shade that matches the color of your enamel.

Cleaning

We clean the tooth surface to remove dental plaque, tartar, or any debris accumulated on it.

Tooth Preparation

Tooth preparation involves buffing and trimming your tooth, depending on the kind of application you require. For instance, for cosmetic applications, we do little or no trimming. On the other hand, we do extensive preparation to remove the decayed part if you have severe tooth decay.

Etching

We use a tooth conditioner to etch the exposed surface of your tooth. We spread the gel over the tooth surface and let it stay for at least 15 seconds before washing it.

Applying the Bonding Agent

We apply a bonding agent to the prepared surface with the help of a small applicator. We would blow air over the tooth to allow the agent to spread over it and form a thin layer. We cure the bonding agent using a curing light by exposing the surface to it for at least 20 seconds.

Applying Composite

We apply the composite resin and cure with the curing light for 40 seconds.

Trimming, Shaping, and Polishing

Once we fill the cavity with composite, we trim the excess and shape the restoration before buffing and polishing it.
