Porcelain Crowns in Springfield, MO

Porcelain Crowns in Springfield, MO

Your teeth may become decayed, infected, or broken and worn with age and time. Sometimes due to certain injuries, your teeth lose their normal shape and size, and in some instances, they become discolored or stained.

Dental crowns, commonly known as dental caps, are tooth-like covers placed over your teeth that help to restore the teeth’s shape, size, and color. Crowns are bonded to your tooth with dental cement. Crowns are made of various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, etc.

What is the Need for a Porcelain Crown?

The following are the needs for a porcelain crown:

  • To protect a tooth from breaking if it is damaged from decay or has become weak due to trauma or wear
  • To cover a metal implant or hold a dental bridge in place
  • To restore a worn-out or broken tooth
  • When a tooth is filled with a large filling, a crown is needed
  • A tooth treated with a root canal needs a crown to protect it from further damage

Procedure to Bond Porcelain Crowns

In the first appointment, we will take an X-ray of your teeth to check for any damage or infection in the teeth. In some cases, a root canal treatment is performed before placing a crown. The tooth is prepared to make space for the crown, and a digital impression is taken. This Impression is used to design and fabricate your crown in our office in a single visit.  No more temporary crowns or goopy impressions.  The fit and color of the crown are checked, and required adjustments are made.

Advantages of Porcelain Crowns

  • They provide a natural look to the teeth and enhance the aesthetics of your smile
  • They are biocompatible. As no metal is used, they are not toxic
  • They are highly durable and strong
  • They allow us to see through them on x-rays for better care and maintenance over time

How to Take Care of Your Dental Crown

  • Brush your teeth twice daily using a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss in between teeth to hinder bacterial growth daily.
  • Use mouthrinse daily.
  • Chewing or biting on ice or any hard food may crack the porcelain crown, and hence, should be avoided.
  • A night guard can be placed in the mouth during the night to avoid clenching your teeth.
